Welcome to Tamsin's Bakes. A little bit about me and my story......


I got diagnosed with Coeliac Disease in August 2023 when I was 23 years old. I loved all types of cakes, pastries, puddings, pasta, bread - anything with gluten in it you name it I loved it!!

Before my diagnosis, I had been told I was lactose intolerant but still suffered years of pain, bloating and tummy problems. I would find I would eat something that I thought should be OK but end up with a reaction sometimes instantly and sometimes after a few hours. My body was not coping and nor was I.

My diagnosis was a relief in some ways as it all finally made sense! But.... i knew very little about Coeliac Disease and so began a rollercoaster of emotions and having to rethink my whole approach to food.

The awareness of what I'm eating and what I'm putting into my mouth has changed the way i look at food, shop and cook. I now understand the consequences of what happens when I eat gluten. The effects on my body make sense. It all adds up!!!


I have loved baking since as early as I can remember. I have core memories of standing on a chair in the kitchen with my Gran and my Mum making cakes and of course licking the spoon clean at the end. Throughout school I entered cookery competitions and then went on to study Food Technology as one of my A Levels.

My favourite thing about baking has always been, and still is, creating something from basic ingredients and sharing that with those I love. Sometimes it works....sometimes it doesn't... but that's all part of the joy and of course you get to eat the end results regardless!!


However since my diagnosis and becoming gluten free I have realised that there is so much missing in the market and that what there is available comes at a cost. It can be expensive to be gluten free! During the first few months I would dream of a large birthday cake, a yummy pastry, a freshly baked croissant - the list goes on. I found out that there were gluten free bakeries but only a few and most of them were in the big cities.


So..... I decided to turn the dream into a reality and created Tamsin's Bakes. A kitchen dedicated to gluten free baking and cooking without the worry of cross contamination. We all know nothing beats a homemade brownie or cupcake and if that can be eaten knowing it's safe and is still yummy then that's all I want. The icing on the cake (excuse the pun!) is when someone says they can't taste that it's gluten free.

Everyone can eat Tamsin's Bakes brownies and cupcakes - you don't have to be gluten free but I know how you feel if you are!
